Adobe Sensei, which is Adobe’s AI machine-learning apparatus, has been the backbone for much of the powerful innovations brought to their applications.
Recently, Adobe teased a new feature that removes the guesswork from masking out subjects: Select Subject.
Presently, the primary methods for extracting subjects are Quick Selection, Magic Wand, Lasso, Magnetic Lasso, Polygonal Lasso, and the Pen Tool. Paired with Refine Edge / Select and Mask, cutting out subjects can vary between a moderately quick task to a tedious one.

With “Select Subject,” Adobe leverages their new machine-learning, training it to identify objects, people, or animals on its own, and automatically generate a mask with a single click.
As demonstrated in the video below, the initial selection is quite impressive considering how quickly it is performed.
Getting a jump-start on cutouts is now even better with the inclusion of the Select and Mask work-space being available with Select Subject. With this, the selection can be easily refined for a much cleaner result.
While no release date has been announced, this powerful new feature will likely be rolling out to Photoshop CC 2018 in the not too distant future.
