📌 This is an outtake from our Skin Retouching course: Lesson 2.3.1 Frequency Separation, Part 1. Find Student logins here.
While the Frequency Separation technique (FS) is sometimes criticized—often for valid reasons—it has a place in our retouching workflow for simplifying specific issues that are too time-consuming or not well-suited for basic retouching tools or Dodge & Burn.
In this video we examine two common variations of the FS setup: the Gaussian Blur vs. the Median Filter approach.
Most importantly, in the further lessons of the course, we’ll focus on maximizing the benefits of using FS without falling victim to its drawbacks.
We’ll also introduce texture grafting, a technique we’ll revisit in later lessons.
