Beauty Retouching: Getting the Best Out of Raw Files Before Retouching

I often get asked about my retouching workflow, and by the way those questions are asked I realize that some photographers and retouchers dismiss the power and potency of their raw files.

So today I’d like to share with you how I process my raw files and prepare them for retouching. This specific file in the video may not have needed all those additional conversions, my goal was to show you what types of things I often do and why.

I also recently shared a 3-part article titled Beauty Retouching Workflow: Before Retouching Even Begins where I wrote about the things that I am convinced are very important to keep in mind before you even consider investing your time into retouching an image. If you’re interested in this topic, you can find the first part of the article here.

In the second part, I talked about my organization and rating system. The goal is to find and rate the very best shots out of the entire shoot (can be anywhere from 150 to 800 images in a shoot), so I only invest time into retouching and putting my best work out for the world (and my potential clients) to see.

And finally, in the third and final part of this article Get The Best Out of Your Raw Files Before Retouching, I shared my Raw processing system and a short video tutorial that demonstrated how I do it.
