The Ultimate Guide to the Dodge & Burn Technique

As you may already know, high-quality skin retouching is usually done using the key retouching technique called Dodge & Burn.

Today we use its modern version in Photoshop and it can be done in multiple ways, but the concept and goals remain the same.

Once a retoucher understands the core concept and learns its technical application, D&B becomes the staple of their beauty, portrait and fashion retouching workflow. You can even out skin surface, adjust patchy makeup, and reshape forms (body parts, hair & facial features and more) as well as add depth and dimensions to the image.

when I use the global D&B I see no changes. Nothing gets lighter or darker?

    1. There are multiple reasons why this can be happening, if you can share a screenshot of your layer and what you’re painting with I might be able to help, otherwise, I can’t know what you’re doing wrong.
